During every political campaign there will be hot button issues brought up to entice you to side with one party over the other. Sometimes one issue will overshadow every other one because it matters most to the community. For instance a local campaign in Toronto might focus on condo developments being built near Toronto Beach homes that has divided the residents. Whatever issue is being debated will always have one side in favor of it and another side vehemently opposed.

Two of the most important issues that any politician must weigh on during political campaigns are taxes and crime rates. They are both issues that everybody deals with and always want answers on. Whether you own North York condominiums or North Vancouver townhouses taxes and crime rates have an impact on where you live.

Crime rates tend to overshadow taxes because of their everyday impact on the community. Taxes aren't being raised everyday but there is always a crime happening at some point throughout the course of the day. When debating crime rates politicians will always turn to stats to show how their city is dealing with the crime rate and what they can do about it. Promises will always be made by politicians to lower the crime rate in the community and keep Niagara Falls hotels, houses and businesses safe.

Whether they talk about lowering the crime rate in political debates or canvass the neighborhood around your Liberty Village home, any given politician believes they are giving you the answer to solve the crime problem in your neighborhood. While they might not actually have all the answers they do believe they have the right answers. It's up to you as a voter to decide if you can believe what they believe in.

Crime rates do not magically go down once somebody is voted into office. It takes time to see results happen. So you can't get upset if somebody you voted for doesn't lower crime rates like they promised. Political campaign promises take time to actually come to fruition. You're voting on somebody based on what you think they will do for your city in the long run, not the short term.

Try to keep that mind if you notice the crime rate not going down after promises have been made to lower it. You don't want to make a decision that sees you putting your house up for sale and competing with other houses for sale in Brampton because you thought the crime rate would go down instantly after promises were made to do so. Be informed about all the candidates and the promises they make and realize that it takes time for a vision to come true.
